The structure of the book assigned to me, Traité d’architecture, ou, Proportion des trois ordres greds : sur un module de douze parties, is very simple, even though there is no index in the beginning.
The book starts with a foreword, which covers short introductions to different themes such like basic geometry, proportion or ornaments, distribution, decoration and so on.
The title as well as the first letter of the following paragraph of each part of the book are nicely decorated.
The foreword is followed by a long two-column list of (at the time) “ancient and modern” architects. Each architect is introduced with name, place and date of birth and sometimes with his career.
The main text begins after the foreword and the list of architects. There is still no index. The first few pages look like an index and short description of images and illustrations following later in the text, which probably is a little laborious for the reader.
The pictures are mostly as big as one page, sometimes smaller and sometimes a double page. In the pictures are different illustrations marked with a letter and a number (e.g. “Pl. 4, fig. 2”), so the reader can find its description at the beginning of the main text.
