The text of the book “Logometron architecturae militaris Freitagianae”, written by Andreas Alexander, has a quiet classical structure. The text is organized in a preface, a main part and after the appendix there are tables and illustrations.
The headings are clearly structred, numbered, and stand out because of their bigger size compared to the following text. The letters are squiggled and the year of publication is 1665. So, I guess the type of the font is baroque. The letters are designed artistically and especially at the beginning of the preface or “Vorbericht” there is a decorative sketch on top of the page. The first paragraph of this part starts with an initial.
After the appendix there are various tables with a lot of numbers. In addition, there are geometrical drawings with polygons, lines, circles etc. On the last page there is a more detailed, architectonical drawing. All illustrations are well organized and numbered. In total there are 171 pages and on the last pages there are 12 illustrations and 16 “Tafeln” which are divided into 19 sections. The tables and illustrations don’t take up a lot of space but they seem as important as the text. The additional large folded plan also indicates that the illustrations play an important role to give the reader a better understanding of the text.
Finally, due to the detailed explanation of arithmetic problems, and more complex problems involving fortification, the exact geometrical drawings and the instructions, I assume that the text is a hand book or even an academic study book.
