Whilst skimming through the book “Memoires sur les objets les plus importans de l’architecture” by M. Patte the following pages grabbed my attention because of the weird sequences of letters at the beginning of some lines a,a,a b,b,b c,c,c, d,d,d etc.. It looks as if it were to describe a list, or a code or something. Only after some time I realized that they were indeed descriptions of the symbols of the image which is on page 191. What a weird layout for a legend. Furthermore I find it almost ironic, that you first read the symbol descriptions before seeing the image and that you need to scroll back a few pages to read the descriptions after seeing the image whilst the page on the right of the image is completely blank.
