Tutte l’opere d’architettura, et prospetiua by Serlio Sebastiano - Archived

I chose this image first because I think it is one of the most important images in a book. It is the one that marks the beginning of the book after the introduction, it is the one that marks the beginning of learning through reading. Moreover, this page is beautiful, the drawing printed on it stands out among all the others in the book. It is a drawing representing a door of great splendour on which it is written: First book of architecture by Sebastiano Serlio Bolognese in which he deals with the first principles of geometry with ease and with patent. With this inscription one understands the purpose of this book and one feels like making a fuss to find out more.
This page belongs to the beginning of the first book. iI think it is interesting because one understands that it really deals with the basic notions of geometry. It is interesting to see the evolution of the rigid lines, to the different triangles, to the rectangles, to the square and then gently to the rounded shapes. It explains perfectly next to each drawing the characteristics of each one which makes learning easier for the reader. The descriptions are short and the drawings effective. It is the fact that these two pages are symmetrical that caught my attention. I chose this last picture, from Sebastiano’s third book about ancient Rome and its mistakes, because it too is very symmetrical and it takes two pages for one drawing. It represents a large stone arena. On one side there are the bleachers and the stairs, on the other side there is what i think is the floor plan of the arena. In the top left corner there is what a door looked like and in the top right corner there is a zoom on the stairs in the bleachers.
