The book “Architectura von Vestungen” is organized in three parts with a prologue. Throughout the whole book the text is aligned in full justification. The font of the text is rather small and most likely written with a quill. The margins of the book are uneven, so that the text is not in the middle of the page.
Above the text on each page there is a title of the current part, which helps the reader to keep an overview. That title is centred and written in a bigger font. All chapters start with an initial. The initials are decoratively written, and its size is equivalent to five to nine lines.
At the bottom of every page, on a separate line, the first word of the next page is printed.
The text is accompanied by a variety of illustrations that are architectural drawings and perspective views. Some are schematics and some are drawn very detailed.
They are scattered throughout the text in order to illustrate and support the issues discussed. Some illustrations are in-text and fills the page up to the margins. Others are full-page and have another margin than the rest of the book. The size of the margin of a full-paged illustration varies from drawing to drawing.
Some illustrations, but not all of them, are labeled with Roman numbers or letters.
The text predominates the book. However, the illustrations seem to be as equally important as the text. Both, image and text, work in completion with each other.
The book seems to be an academic study, because of the very detailed descriptions about fortifications.
