The book “Recueil des plans, profils et élévations des plusieurs palais, chasteaux, eglises, sépultures, grotes et bâtis dans Paris et au environs…” by Jean Marlot only consists of architectural images, what means that the book has no text. The book is written in French. There is one image shown in the middle of each page. The image does not take up much space. So in relation to the sheet, the images are not that big. They are sometimes displayed in portrait format and sometimes in landscape format. Each image has a short description.
My second book, which has been assigned to me, is by Heinrich Wölfling, The title of the book is “principles of Art History”. It is written in English. This book contains both – text and image.
In contrast to the book by Jean Marlot, the images are rarely architectural images. There are a lot of more paintings. But these images are also labeled. The images have been put in with care and are supporting their importance to the text. For this reason, the images can be seen in different sizes. Sometimes it takes half a page, sometimes a quarter and some pages have no image at all.
