The three spreads I chose reflect the main structure of the book. The first one seen below is a representation of each chapters cover page. It is composed of a title page with a short description of the chapters content. The second part consist of a drawing that gives an incentive for the following chapter. These beautiful drawings stood out as they underline the theme and set a sentiment of what’s to come. What also stood out to me was the stamp present on all of these “chapter cover pages”.
In the second excerpt I was intrigued by the descriptive nature of the authors studies on fortifications. The detailed spreadsheet of the measurements of these large scaled structures are astounding and the section drawings accompanying them are spectacular. The plans that go hand in hand with the analytic nature of the text are characteristic for this excerpt. In various section drawings, axonometric drawings and descriptive plans, the author outlines the importance of different factors of defensive fortifications, offensive fortifications, troop accommodations, structural measurements, layout plans etc. (I allowed myself to upload two spreads in this part to reflect this description)
The third excerpt I chose highlights the illustrative drawings that are noticeable throughout the text. They are similarly structured as the above mentioned excerpts but struck me as being of a more descriptive nature as the analytical drawings. The accompanying text on the right is also decorated by a special header that commences the page and issues a certain importance.
