FRIENDS WITH AN OLD BOOK

Pages_Architecture de Philbert de l’Orme - Archived

Posted on 11/19/202009/13/2021

These two pages are particularly interesting because they are addressing someone. The first page of this set is the last page of the Chapter “Au Roy” which adresses the king. Philibert de l’Orme honors him and thanks him. The second page of the set is the first one of the chapter “Au lecteur de bon vouloir”, in which the author welcomes the reader and expresses his hope, that the readers of the book will be benevolent.

This set of pages reflects the typical structure of the nine chapters about architecture. Philbert de l’Orme has clearly structured the chapters in pages on which describes the theory of architecture followed by pages with illustrations of the things he writes about.

These two pages stand out because one is a picture of the author himself and the second one is the first page of the first chapter of the book. The illustration on top of the page and the entire title and subtitle are repeated on the beginning of each following chapter.
