FRIENDS WITH AN OLD BOOK

Pages – Le antichità romane - Archived

Posted on 11/18/202009/13/2021
The ‘Tav. II’, locates the remains of all the ancient monuments in Rome, some of which can still be seen today.
I chose this painting because it illustrates Piranesi’s work; documenting the remains of ancient Roman architecture (despite their state of neglect-> broken pieces ).

I chose these pages because of aesthetic reasons. (The stunning painting of the Pantheon caught my eye..)

He paints the crumbling structures while they are still being used; The People live around them and worship them.

This is the dedication (on page 3/4).

I chose it to point out the layout; This small paragraph would have easily fit on one page, but the author decided to spread it over two pages.
