The book “Johann Wilhelm Architectura civilis” written by Johann Wilhelms is divided in two parts.
The first one is an introduction with a preface of the author which seems like a “Captatio Benevolentia”, then there is a list of 42 explanation of the images and twelve paragraphs about principle of the author in architecture. The second part is in fact a sequence of images about construction, for example about roofs or bridges, but also about the new machinery. This book was written in order to being useful every day for the art and architecture lovers.
The book has 13 pages of introduction plus a picture at the beginning and 84 in the second part, in which there are 42 images. The size of the book measure 326 millimeters in length, 205 (mm) in width and 10 (mm) in heigh. According to the traditional standard format the book should be a Folio.
