General subject of the book
The book Regola delli cinque ordini d’architettura includes copperplates by Vignola, Michelangelo and Peruzzi. This collection of renaissance architecture plans shows discriptions and engravings of columns and portals. The basic teachings of the renaissance architecture are included. It is all written in Italian.
Organisation of the book
The book is not structured into Chapters or parts. It starts with an introduction by Bandinelli, which stretches over one full page, which is the only page not containing a picture. The following 59 Pages are each filled with a big copperplate, mostly involving details of columns, and additionally attached with a short text. Each page is used only on one side, so the back side of each page is left empty and the focus lies fully on the copperplate. Approximately 80 percent of the page is filled with a picture while the rest space is used for a very short description of the plans (about five to ten sentences). There is also no clear order of the pages, while it can be said that the plans of the columns get more complex and complicated by the end of the Book. For the cover of the Book the publisher used half leather binding of the time, brown marbled paper binding, gold embossed spine. Page 14 contains large ink stains while all other pages are in very good condition.
