General subject of the book
The Italian book called „Dispareri in Materia d’Architettura, et Perspettiva“ by Martino Bassi is about a public dispute regarding the baptistery of the Cathedral of Milan around 1570. As far as I understood Bassi doesn’t agree with the way the crypt and the chorus was supposed to be placed. With the help of other famous architects he tries to convince a deputy of the Duke of Milan called Signore Alfonso of his view.
Organization of the book
The book is more a collection of exchanged letters between Bassi and a deputy of the Duke of Milan called Alfonso N. In the beginning there are some letters from Bassi to Alfonso N. followed by an answer by the second one. The first letter is dated April 1st of the year 1570. Towards the end of the book there are more letters addressed to the deputy of the Duke by other architects. These architects are as the title suggests all important and famous architects of that time. The last letter again written by Bassi is dated 20th September 1570.After having read the last letter one can find several illustrations of churches.
