Ernst Friderich wrote about how fortifications should be built to prevent invasion from enemies. The first 7 pages are dedicated to the king and then follows an introduction called “Bericht” on 6 pages divided in 14 small texts.
The book is divided in two main parts. In the first part from page 7 until 398 are the descriptions of the different ways of fortification adapted to its function. For example, royal fortress or citadels (listed in the title). The book is divided in six main parts.

Every book consists of a different number of chapters, between 3 and 14. The index is located between the description and the illustrations.
In the middle of the book starts the second part, which consists only of Illustrations. These images are labeled with a roman number and a single number, which is an Indication to which description it belongs. These drawings are mainly ground plans and some few cutaways. The total 116 illustrations are draw on a sheet of paper (20cm x 16cm) and then glued to the initial page of the book on the shorter and exterior side of the book page. To see the images, you have to fold back the attached piece of paper. The whole book has 547 pages.
Size: The book has a height of 7.7cm (outer side) until 6.5 cm (inner side), a breadth of 20 cm and a width of 16 cm.
