  • Title: Delle Fortificationi
  • Rome, 1627
  • Author: Giovanni Scala
  • General subject: fortification
  • Organisation: Compilation of plans and isometric views
  • Cover size: 240 x 360 x 22mm
  • Page size: 232 x 353mm
  • Pages: 116
  • Number of Illustrations: 118
  • Impressions of the book:

The cover of the book is a bright creamy white colored with a golden sign in the middle, which shows an heraldic animal and the same animal can be found on the back cover as well. The material of the book cover is plant fibre and glue. The whole book is essentially a list of plans with corresponding isometric drawings. The only exception is the last page, on which a larger plan spans two pages. The book has no index, there are only a few words of text in the entire book; not even a short introduction can be found. Some building instructions are on the plans, which are all just glued onto the pages and are written in Italian. The illustrations were produced with ink. No colors have been used, only black and white. On some pages I discovered little circles and ovals punched into the pages. Nevertheless the book is still in good condition.

As I have mentioned earlier in the text the book includes neither a list of contents nor an index that is why the Digital Impression contents only the frontispiece and a few typical pages always with two illustrations for one page added with short plan descriptions on it.
