The title of the book “Parallèle de l’architecture antique avec la modern” reveals pretty much the whole topic of the book. One knows what it could be about. The author of the book Charles-Antoine Jombert wrote in coorparation with other authors of its time this book which is the fourth part of a series of books. Jombert was a printer, french publisher and writer in the 18th century.
The book is about the five orders and has a list of contents divided into two parts. It begins with the Greek order in part one and goes on with the Toscan order in part two.
The content is widely illustratet, mostly with a comparison of a specific order between two different architects of the time. All of them are in my opinion handdrawn and extremely detailed and show excellent how different architect adapat to different orders.
To the illustration there is always a huge written text explaining a specific topic.
The book itself is rather small. Like some sort of a handbook and has an average thickness but more on the slim side. Furthermore it has a hard cover which makes it robust. I think it was made to carry around in the pocket. On building sides or some sort of construction sides. So that even there was a possibility to rely on this very heavy topic of architecture.
