The book from Matthias Doegen “L’ architecture militaire moderne, ou fortification : confirmée par diverses histoires tant anciennes que nouvelles, & enrichie des figures des principales forteresses qui sont en l’Europe” is about the fortification of different, mainly Dutch cities. It is sorted in chapters. Most of the chapters focus on one of the already mentioned Dutch cities. What exactly is mentioned in different chapters is not clear to me because it is written in and old form of french. Nevertheless I caught site of the fact that also Doegen mentioned Vitruvius. He called him the father of Architecture.
The book is 320mm long, 210mm wide and 60mm thick. It has 547 pages and 70 illustrations. They show the different fortification of the cities and sometimes different methods to calculate the perfect form of the cities fortification.
