To find similar Books to my Cours d’architecture by Augustin D’Aviler I started my search with Alice by Setting the text to „column-orders“ and the brain to „column“ This lead me directly to my first book wich I find has a strong relation to mine. It is called „Style“ and it is written by Gottfried Semper. It also is a deep dive into architectural theory with an unusual approach to it. He sets the focus quite harshly on how internal and external factors influence and create style. While doing this he also covers the topics of orders and similar things.
Next up I tried the text „French architecture“ with the brain „renaissance“. This led to a few books, but I did not found one I saw to fit with Cours d’architecture.
I got the same result with „ornaments“ and „worldwide“.
When I tried „Gesims“ and „General“ Alice could not find anything, the same thing applies to „Jean-Françios Blondes“ the mentor of the author Augustin D’Avalier with the brain „architecture“.
However as I tried the author himself also with „architecture“ I was able to find „The Ruins of the most beautiful monuments of Greece“ by Julien-David Le Roy. This book tries to find relations between several classical greek buildings and ruins, also covering the topics of architectural analysis, column-orders and a few more.
Lastly I typed in „Temple“ together with „Paris“. With this input Alice was able to give me „Architectural Diplomacy“ by Gil R. Smith. This book is an analysis of drawings made by students between 1675 and 1700 at the Academia di san Lucia. Smith thereby makes the observation that at a time where innovations related to architecture in Rome have been quite rare, the students came up with some very brave ideas, also regarding the column orders by braking the rules of them.
