I looked for words which not only came across the book multiple times but also hold an architectnical meaning. I tried to use the words with the original language which is french. Words like jardin, chateau, décoration, maisons de plaisance and edifices caught my attention. I used the brain of Xenotheka so I could find the books in the online library. I think the library has a stronger connection to architectonic themes than the others.
I found the books Rykwert’s “The First moderns” and Semper’s “Style in the Technical and Tectonic Arts or Practical Aesthetics”.
Rykwert is writing about social and privat relationship and humanistic learning but also the mythical hermetic philosophy. Maybe the book wants to discuss the role of architecture or the architect in the society in the 18th century and also how that role has changed. It could make a comparison to the modern architecture. What influence has architecture on society and vice versa. It is still one of the important discussion today and an interesting dialectic. I came across this book when I typed in: décoration.
Sempers is about style and what should influence style. He writes about aesthetics and materialism. He connects style to social and historical context. I think the connection to Blondel here is the manual like approach. Maybe it is also about symbols and how each relates to them and how to use them. I found the book with the words: jardin, chateau and edifices.
