The book „Opera di Francesco Borromino“ written by Sebastiano Giannini contains a lot of illustrations and almost no text. In order that there are so many options to choose words for the searching machine Alice I firstly rewatched the pictures in the book and reread my analysis from the past tasks. With the main informations that the building is an opera (religious building) and that the book contains a lot of drawings I narrowed my search down to the two words opera and illustration.
I adopted Alice’s brain to architecture library and started the conversation with the topic of architecture and choose the terms «opera» and «illustration». Although I asked for different words as opera in Italy, drawings or illustrations from 18. century, Alice always suggested the two books „The Autopoiesis of Architecture Vol2“ by Patrik Schumacher and „The Architectural Capriccio“ by Lucien Steil.
The first book „The Autopoiesis of Architecture Vol2“ by Patrik Schumacher caught my attention because of the author’s perspective. The main focus is based on the developing culture. My book is about a religious building and it’s illustrated among the author’s view. Religion is a huge part of the culture and a main influence of how the culture develops over the years. I think both books strength lie in their cultural view and ideas. Both books include buildings in Rome around the 18. Century.
The second book „The Architectural Capriccio“ by Lucien Steil addresses the historical context and demonstrates its contemporary validity and appropriateness as a holistic design. This is also shown in impressive illustration of multiple authors. The illustrations of both books show the buildings in an overviewing perspective but also go deep into details. Otherwise than my book, a lot of illustrations have explaining text beneath it. Both books have their own way explaining the perspective of the author.
