Pietro Santo Bartoli – Colona Traiana eretta dal Senato
I started with the most important word of my book: column as the topic of the conversation. Alice’s brain is in my search process the Xenotheka Library. Another word that is important is architecture and also Trajan, the Roman emperor. I wanted to find an old book that is full of drawings like the one of Pietro Santo Bartoli. The most books that I found are with a lot of text and hardly any drawings, which is not so comparable to my book. By searching with the word column, I could not find a lot of similar books to mine. But with the word Trajan I found what I have searched. The main topic is also the war so I wrote down Trajan war.
I also looked up the words: Monument, rome, war, senate and antique.
One of the books that are similar to mine is the book Virtual Tourist in Renaissance Rome by Rebecca Zorach. Here the topic is also the architecture in Rome and it’s a book with a lot of illustrations and drawings of the architecture of that time. You can really feel, how it was then and how it looked like at that time. There are a lot of drawings of the Trajan Column collected in this book which is similar to those in the book of Bartoli. The importance of Trajan’s column is shown in both books. And the drawings themselves look exactly the same.
The second book that I have chosen is Manual of Historic Ornament by Richard Glazier. It’s also an old book with a lot of interesting drawings in it. The date of publishing is 1906. The pages look also worn and the drawings are very big. There are also drawings of people fighting for something. It’s a very valuable book because the ornaments are extremely detailed. So like in my book Colona Traiana eretta dal Senato, the importance of detailed illustration is shown.
