After a short time I got an understanding of the search engine Alice. My book consists only of pictures of ornaments. It is called: “Inventioni d’ornamenti d’architettura di Michel Angello Buonaruotti e d’altri dissegnate dal … Conte Carlo Castellamonte in Roma e copiate da me Giovan Francesco Baronscello” by Baroncelli, Gio Francesco. I wrote down matching words for this book and started typing them into the search engine. I searched for suitable topics for the search engine: “design; ornaments; art”.
Then when I searched on the search engine, I often received the book by Koolhaas, “Elements of Architecture” as a suggestion. So I decided to include this book in my shortlist. It was also funny to see that this book was suggested because I personally already own this book.
The book consists of various elements in architecture. These elements are analyzed extremely well. For example, you search for “windows” and you find a whole chapter of various windows. The difference between my book and Koolhaas’ book is that my book is a pure picture book with a specific theme. Koolhaas describes almost all elements in every way.
The second book I found through the search engine is a very good book, complementary to my book. It is by: Farshid Moussavi and is called “The Function of Ornament”. It is a graphic representation of ornaments in the 20th century. Contemporary ornaments are presented and explained. This book contains only CAD drawings. A small text was written for each drawing to make the pictures more understandable.
Both of the selected books are very new books from the search engine. It was also fun to see that the book by Koolhaas is even in my possession. I think the search engine presented very many and appropriate/complementary books. It stops old as well as new books to choose from.
