The first book, which was found with the search engine Alice, was called “The Modern Architectural Theory” by Henry Francis Mallgrave. In his historical Survey they discuss idea of the new cities with tall constructions. The thought of a new city is also mentioned in the book of Jaques Perret, with different illustrations of cities and budlings. His designs for large buildings, which are a premonition of the ‘modern skyscraper’, are high-rise structures with up to eleven stories. In the book “Modern Architectural Theory” the design of a 1000 feet tall building is mentioned, which creates a resemblance between the two books.
“Century Architecture” is the name of the second book, which was written by Van Eck. It includes illustrations of four temples: the Temple of Juno at Metapontum, the Temple ofjuno and the Temple of Hercules at Agrigento and the Doric Temple at Segesta. The connection between the two books lies in the illustrations of the temples. Jaques Perret offers in his book Architectura et perspectiva various designs of Huguenot temples.
The search for a book which resembles Jaques Perret’s work “Architectura et perspectiva des fortifications & artifice” in content and illustrations wasn’t easy. At the beginning the search engine Alice didn’t provide much help because it was quite confusing. With time came the understanding for Alice, the search for books became easier. For both books the Xenotheka was trawled through. The topic for the first book was architecture, and the search phrase was the idea of a cities. The second book, like the first, used the keyword architecture, but the search took place with the search for images of temples. Through the search with Alice, I have two books which match the content of the book “Architectura et perspectiva des fortifications & artifice” by Jaques Perret fit.
