My original book della architettura from the writer Giuseppe Viola Zanini, talked a lot about geometry and the origins and rule, proportions of archittecture. So i decided to search for the keywords from my original book in alice.
the first word i searched was “geometry” and there was an intresting text from Deleuze, Francis Bacon “The Logic of Sensation” that talked about geometry but in an other context. the context of this book was art and the way the movements and figures of artists are made. the intresting part of this book that conected my search was, that in this book the author uses art history to define and explain things. the sentence that connected my book was:
If there is a geometry here, it is a very different geometry from that of Egypt or Greece; it is an operative geometry of the trait or the accident.
and it connected it because my book is talking about the same origin of shapes and geomerty as this art book does.
The second word i searched in alice was “origin” and there was one interesting response sentence from Borks “late gothic architecture”:
Bork, Late Gothic Architecture
Vitruvius clearly aspired to root his discussions in fundamental structural, conceptual, and aesthetic principles.
it was interesting because my book talked about the same ideas of Vitruvius. That the origins are mensioned shows a direct connection to my book that dedicateds the whole first part to this topic.
the third word i looked up in alice was ”illustration” and i found a very intresting book from Van Eck called ”Eiteenth century architecture”.
“dall’Autore dell’ Opera Degli Anfiteatri, e singolarmente del Veronese (1730), explained what was wrong with this entablature and why it had not been taken into consideration by previous writers on architectural theory, and gave a detailed analysis of the amphitheater’s discrepancy with the rules of “true” architecture and with Vitruvian rules specifically.”
I choose this long text to compare because it talked about why many examples weren’t taken into consideration when architectural literature was written. The context combining my book and this part of the book is the base of what architecture is and it comes from. And to know why certain historical elements arent taken into consideration is as important as knowing why some are.
Alice was a positive expirience for me and i am sure that i will use it in the future.
