Quinque columnarum exacta descriptio – Hans Blum
Getting friend with my book wasn’t that easy then I thought. The first time I met my book was at the Zurich Central library. I was happy because I don’t live far from there so I could meet with my book easily. When I opened the book and looked through it, I was very impressed about the big drawings.
Hans Blum shows in his pictures how five columns were built and decorated. He drew them very precisely and wrote all the dimensions down. I love his drawings because I could understand them well although I don’t understand one word latin.
That was also the most difficult challenge. To overcome the linguistic hurdle. The book was written in latin and even though I tried to translate the book into English or German the translation wasn’t very good. The lettering was very squiggly, so the computer couldn’t recognize the letters well. For me the task 4 with the OCR was very stressful but I tried my best to understand just a little bit and it was worth it.
I am very happy to be friend with the book “Quinque columnarum exacta descriptio” I learned many things and I think this friendship which is already one year old, will last more years.
