In his book «Compendio della Fortificatione Militare », Giusto Emilio Alberghetti deals with the various variations and types of military fortifications. He discusses for example the advantages, as well as the disadvantages of different locations to build and sustain a fortification (mountain tops, islands, etc.), the universal principles of military architecture in general and the geometric characteristics of the different types of fortifications. In addition, the reader can benefit from numerous illustrations about the structures and geometric principles. Those illustrations can often be found in fold-out pages.
