Structure
The book “Le magnifique chasteau de Richelieu”, which is dedicated to Duke of Richelieu Jean Armand du Plessis, is a collection of elevations, sections, floor plans and perspective drawings of the Palace of Richelieu made by the author Jean Marot.
The book has no specific organization in chapters or volumes, all you can see is that it begins with some texts, including the full title and the dedication, and goes on with the black and white illustrations, which are organized in elevations and sections at first and perspective drawings and floor plans at last. Most of the illustrations are completed with legends or small descripting sentences, aiming to help understand the location and purpose of the different buildings and the mythology of some ornaments or statues.
Size
The book measures 255 x 355 x 20 mm, so in accordance to the referred traditional standard formats its size would be named Quarto (Q).
Traditionally counted, the book consists of 92 pages, but actually all initial written paragraphs and the following 20 illustrations are printed on 22 double pages, leaving two white pages on front and back. The cover of the book is totally clean, without any symbols, drawings or words.
