The Title „Opera di Francesco Borromino”, composed by Sebastiano Giannini, can be translated to “The Opera of Francesco Borromino”.
Appearance wise it`s rather thin, though tall and covered in leather.
There is barely any text in the book except for the first three to four pages.
In the rest, every second page has a hand drawn image.
The first image is a drawing of a picture of a man. The outer rim of the frame reveals that the presented person is indeed Francesco Borromino. He was an ancient Italian architect one could conclude that the whole book is about a specific opera he built. As far as I was able to find out, Sebastiano Giannini analyzed certain buildings into their closest details and then manufactured a book about them. Maybe he did this to understand why certain buildings were built the way they are.
In “Opera di Francesco Borromino” he starts by drawing all 4 sides of the building, then the inner court. After that he draws a section, which is then followed by a ground plan.
He then focuses on entrances, cornices, columns, etc., etc.
I think there is no text in this book because I believe it was for research purposes, he did either for him or for someone that needed/wanted to understand the building. Maybe the person he did it for, didn`t even speak his language.
The sections weren`t to be explained, but to be looked at and examined.
And in order to get every detail and to be able, to take a really close look, he had made the book rather big.
