- Argument Friends With An Old Book
The book is called Neu-Triumphierende Fortification auff allerley Situation and is written by Ernst Friedrich von Borgsdorf. Just from the title itself, we can assume that the content is about fortresses. After some research we find out that the author mainly writes about successful fortresses and their architectural structure. His other works are more specific and focus on certain fortresses and their socio-cultural influence. He includes the presences of the reigning principalities and the impression of their fortresses on the outside world. This book focuses on successful defense mechanisms of a few fortresses. The book is structured with a little bit of text and figurative examples of said fortresses. The pictures are very detailed and are architecturally directed. Obviously the drawings aren’t on today’s level since the book is a few hundred years old. The book itself showed marks of aging, is still in good shape though. The cover is brownish and without any decoration. The book contains almost 700 pages which leads to the fact that it’s a compilation of fortress ideas and their defense mechanisms. It doesn’t contain list of contents though, the author just kind of jumps from one idea to another. The sequence probably makes sense but without reading the whole book it seems more like a random composition of fortresses. I think the book is some sort of guide book or lecture on fortress building, since it doesn’t only teach about the way they were built but also the socio-cultural influence and meaning they had.
