The title of the book is “Parallèle de l’architecture antique avec la moderne” which is in French, is called “Parallel of ancient architecture with modern” translated into English. As it is shown in the title, it talks about ancient architecture but focused on the five orders and their adaptions to different ancient buildings. The book is divided into many chapters but does not have a list of content.
Every chapter starts with a long text, explaining its content. The book is filled with precisely hand-drawn visual illustrations of the five orders at every end of the chapter (after the text), it is often shown with the clear and exact measurement of every part, it sometimes also shows its adaption, therefore it also has many drawings of the whole architecture.
The book is relatively small, it is about the size of A5 and has a thickness of around 3.5cm, with a hardcover. The story of the five orders is long and therefore could be written in a very detailed way. This book, on the other hand, is small and short compared to ancient history. Therefore, I would say that this book contains the most interesting and important parts about the five orders.
Last but not least, the main author of the book Charles-Antoine Jombert was a French publisher and bookseller. This book was written by him and other authors together. By publishing this book, the authors spread the knowledge to further generations and accelerate the development of architecture.
