In the first volume each chapter starts with a decorative illustration, followed by the entire title of the book, the autors name, “first volume” and the name of the chapter that is about to follow. Within the chapters there is one primary block of text, which contains a straight font for the text in italian and an italic font for the text in latin. On the outer border of each page is a much narrower column for side notes and references. Also each double page carries the name of the book “Corona Imperiale dell’Archit. Milit. di Pietro Sardi” on the top of the left page and the volume and chapter name on the top of the right side, as well as the page number on each side. The first volume is closed by another decorative illustration. Since the first volume does not really have a lot of illustrations except for the ones at the beginning of each chapter and the one closing the volume, the pages look all pretty much the same.
The second volume has the same formation of the text as the first one, i.e. 2 types of fonts, narrow column for side notes, title on each page. However there are far more illustrations than in the first volume. In addition to the decorative illustrations introducing each chapter there are illustrations containing ground plans, sections, elevations, axonometries or perspectives. They are all placed at the top of the page under the title and page number. They are all centered and take up about half of the page, without any text surrounding them. Also they are always numbered (with written numbers) above the picture but within the frame surrounding them, as if the number is part of the illustration. Those numbers are used to reference the pictures at the very beginning of the book under the letter F like in “figura…” (figure…), however it’s only the architectural illustrations that are numbered, the decorative illustrations are not included in the references.
The whole organization of the book might suggest that it is a book for academic study or handbook for architects, since it contains a continuous text with some references, some illustrations and a very detailed table of contents.
