The book “Architectura von Vestungen” is about fortresses. It is structured in three parts. Part one is divided in 34 chapters and it thematizes the construction technique of a fortress. The next part contains six chapters and talks about where a fortress could or even should be built. The third part has eight chapters and focuses on the equipment of a fortress and how it should adapt to its environment. For example, one chapter is about how to defend yourself from the enemies by showing where you should place your canons.
The book has approximately 364 pages with 76 illustrations. The text does not fill out the whole page and it’s also not in the middle of the page. The illustrations are very large and drawn in detail. But they still keep a sense of simplicity to emphasize only the necessary. There are a few pages that are kept empty.
The dimensions of the book, a length of 350mm, width of 250mm and high of 35mm, resembles the standard size of “Folio”. With it being very large, the book is also really heavy.
