The book “Les ruines des plus beaux monuments de la Grèce” from Le Roy David can be found in the Oechslin Library and the main library of Zürich in the “Alte Drucke”. The first edition appeared in 1758.
The book shows plans and some elevations of pre-Christian and Christian places of worship. Furthermore it shows views and maps of Athena, Sparta and Corinth. Moreover plans, elevations and details of a Doric and Tuscan temple as well as the Doric, Ionic and Corinthian orders and details of a Doric and Corinthian structure. It shows moreover plans, elevations, sections and details of Corinthian. It has a view of a reconstruction of the Propylaea of the Athenian acropolis and shows a view of Pola in Istria.
The book is organized in two volumes put together in one book and has around seven sections with only two big chapters. It starts with the title page than dedication, preface, discours, first part (“big” chapter), title page of the second part (“big” chapter), discours, table of content and finally it has an approval/privilege of the King.
The book has about 238 pages with around 60 different illustrations. It is bound with light brown leather.
