The book “Della architettura“ was written by Giuseppe Viola Zanini and published 1629 in Padova. The general subjects of this book are the origin of the architecture and principles of geometry and perspective. It also contains texts and illustrations about the column orders.
Concerning the appearance of the book, its cover is made out of thick, light brown carton. The books condition is quite well. The only damage I noticed was a torn page and some watermarks on several pages.
“Della architettura” is clearly structured. At the beginning of the book, there is a preface and an introduction, followed by a table of contents which is alphabetically organized. The book is divided into two books which are organized into chapters. The first book, entitled “Lode dell’Architettura” mainly focuses on the principles of geometry meanwhile the second book, “Della Nuova simmetria degli cinque ordini d’Architettura” presents the five orders of columns with detailed descriptions and illustrations of the column structure.
The book contains 497 pages and 95 illustrations, which always cover an entire page. It has a width of 32 mm, a length of 164 mm and a height of 233 mm. Therefore it classifies as “Royal Octavo” in accordance to the traditional standard book sizes.
