The book assigned to me is titled “Archisesto per formar con facilità li cinque ordini d’architettura” by Ottavio Revesi Bruti and has constructing scale drawings of architectural orders as its main theme. I knew right away which terms I need to search for in order to generate the most relevant results. So I adopted the brain of Xenotheka Library and I initially proposed “architecture” as topic and typed in “five orders” to start a conversation with Alice. The search engine led me directly to my first book which covers similar topics as my book.
Sebastiano Serlio on Architecture Volume 1, Serlio
I chose this book, because it mentions some of the crucial themes of my book. It talks about the rules of geometry and perspective and the author describes arches and other architectural constructions like Ottavio Revesi Bruti. Furthermore he talks about the five orders, which are the main subject in my book. The illustrations in this book remind me of the illustrations in my book.
For my next book I decided to change Alice’s brain to “Library of Shakespeare’s” and searched up “column” as topic and typed in “Doric, Ionic, Corinthian, Tuscan and Composite” to find a book which contains elements that enable to reproduce the five orders of architecture and its features. The explore button offered the following book:
The Four Books on Architecture, Andrea Palladio
This book is richly illustrated with the author’s own hand drawings which caught my attention and amazed me, because all drawings in my book were drawn by hand too. It also discusses building materials and different techniques and also documents the five classical orders of architecture – for each of these orders a chapter is dedicated – like in my book.
Lastly I would like to list another book. It was recommended to me by Alice almost every time I searched for something.
Semper, Style in the Technical and Tectonic Arts or Practical Aesthetics, Gottfried Semper
This book highlights the important role of aesthetics of the technical arts and the five orders (Doric, Ionic, Corinthian, Tuscan and Composite). This also reminded me of my book as it too focuses on aesthetics.
