Xenotheka_20
At first I tried searching using the title of the book and the name of the author. However I didn’t find much on the search engine. I decided to take a different approach and use keywords from the book or similar topics to the book.
Since our book was a guide for architecture I decided to search for something similar. I found the book “Palladio, the four books of architecture” using architecture guide for my search. The book was first published in 1663 in London by Godfrey Richards. The book is based on the ideas of Andrea Palladio, an Italian architect from the 16th century. Both books are quite similar in that they have lots of illustrations and serve as a manual for architects.
Changing the topic to architecture and Alice’s brain to Xenotheka Library helped me find more books related to the subject. The second book I found is Elements of Architecture written by the Dutch architect Rem Kohlhaas. In his book he looks at different styles of architecture and elements, such as windows, doors, facades, balconies and stairs. In this way it is kind of like the book by Pierre le Muet.
Then I found another book when I searched for architecture manual which is called “18th century architecture” by Caroline von Eck and Sigrid de Jong. The book looks at the development of architecture in the 18th century. And schows that many books and manuels were published during this time period. This would make sense since the book “manir de bastir pour toutes sortes de personnes” by Pierre le Muet was intended as a guide for people of that time period to better understand architecture and its significance.
In conclusion I can say that the search engine Alice and the Library Xenotheka are quite useful even if they can be a bit difficult to understand at first.
