The book under analysis is a work by Johann Rudolph Feasch, Des Jacobi Barozzi von Vignola Grund Regel. As is clear from the title, it deals with mathematical, structural and perspective rules of architecture.
Initially, I started with a search for the title of the book and the author for this new task. It seemed like the most logical move, but I later discovered that with Alice it is better to search using single words and not whole sentences.
I therefore searched for the essence of the book, i.e. the words “reason Rule”, perspective, principles, theories, obviously in English, because in other languages it is difficult for the search engine to find similarities. After a careful selection I decided to analyse these two books which have several elements in common with the main book under analysis.
The first one is by Perrault, Ordonnance For The Five Kinds Of Columns After The Method Of The Ancients. It proposes a relative theory of beauty: a battle essay and an affront to the absolute premises of the newly formed Académie Royale d’Architecture, led by François Blondel. This volume has several illustrations that are very similar if not identical to my book, but it includes much more written text and fewer images.
The second book is by Daniele Barbaros, Vitruvius of 1567, this treatise offers a window into the architectural ideals of the 1500s, as well as notions of philosophy, mathematics, music, astronomy, mechanics and more. The text is accompanied by illustrations of the Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio and his contemporaries.
