My book: A book of architecture containing designs of buildings and ornaments, James Gibbs
First, I tried to look for something general like “ornament” to be sure, that I will find a book. The problem was that the first option was a book about modern architecture which does not contain any ornaments. So I looked at various search results and I found a book about Elements of Architecture in the 21th century. I found that interesting, because both books have their focus on buildings and their details but they are 3 centuries apart. If you compare both books, you will see the differences of now and then.
The second book I chose is ” Eighteenth Century Architecture” by Van Eck. It is about the impact of buildings on the public, the history of architecture and the developments that shaped architecture of that period. What I found interesting is that James Gibbs’ book is more a guideline how to correctly use ornaments on buildings. Van Eck’s book is more of an analysis why was it like that. Even though they discuss different topics, the one similarity is that architecture must be approved by the public: one book describes how to do it and the other one writes about where does it come from.
