The words that describe the book well are: problems of architecture, columns, oblique arches, geometric shapes and so on.
I first asked Alice about „problems in architecture“ in the architecture library. I then chose problems of blondel as the topic of conversation. When I clicked on “find”, the name Galileo quickly caught my eye. It was mentioned in many contexts. Then I found a context where the 4 problems were described and I noticed that the fourth problem that blondel addressed was mechanics. Apparently, the problem was first studied by Galileo in 1638 and I knew I wanted to research it further.
The first book I found was Gerbino, Geometrical Objects Architecture and the Mathemat. It talks about what Galileo said about proportions in architecture and they were also criticized by Blondel. Furthermore, the mathematical sciences will have an influence on the forms in architecture. I could not find the book in the Xenotheka library, but I could find it online. It bears no resemblance to Blondel’s book, but the content point makes it.
The second book I found through searching was the ten books of Vitruvius. The contents of these books were quite similar in that there were many hand drawings and the sizes of the geometric shapes are also given. Many principles were also enumerated here, as by Blondel. However, unlike Blondel, the illustrations are not very abstract.
For me it was quite tedious to work with Alice, but also because I could not find many books in the Xenotheka library and therefore had no access to the PDF files.
