In order to find a book related to mine, I thought it was essential to come up with the right few words which would help me narrow down my search. As I have found out from the earlier tasks, my book mainly focuses on the basis of architecture and supplying its readers with a broad knowledge when it comes to not only building, but building well.
I decided it would be best to choose following words:
- roman architecture
- concepts of architecture
- Vitruvius
- ancient buildings
Surprisingly enough I ended up with the same handful of books as a result every single time, which is why I then decided to pick a certain topic out of my book and focus on that, which is when I typed in:
- temples
- the five orders
From my first search I have chosen to pick the book
„Art in Theory 1648-1815 – An Anthology of changing ideas“ by Charles Harrison, Paul Wood and Jason Gaiger
By taking a glance at it I have found out that it is similar to my book by laying down basics and concepts of a certain topic. Only the topic was different. This book focuses on Art. But the gist of analyzing it and „laying down ground rules“, if you will, is very similar.
It was important for me that the second book differs a little from the first one in order to make my list more diverse. Which is why I ended up picking:
„The city of god“ by Saint Augustine
This book was written between 413 and 426, which makes the timeline more similar. It starts with telling tales from Rome and its gods, which makes me conclude the topic itself is more similar to „Les dix livres d’architecture“ Moreover it talks in depth about why there’s different temples, different altars and different rituals for each temple. It focuses in different gods and their meanings, as well as the tales that are told about them.
I reckon that these two books each have their own connection to mine, yet are very diverse when it comes to their structure and content.
