At first, I wanted to find out if my book or the author where mentioned in other books. I knew that Palladio was a wellknown person, so I started by putting in his name. I realised very quickly, that he was mentioned in a very big number of books. Even the title of his book was mentioned in a lot of writings.
I then wanted to find books with similar topics. My first one was „five orders“, which is the main theme of the first book. I continued by typing in different themes which appeared in Palladios four books of architecture. They were words like: churches, temple, column, city, drawing and a lot more. The themes I could choose are nearly endless, because Palladio tried to cover all important themes of architecture. I mainly used xenotheka as Alice’s brain, and played around with the topic a bit.
After realising, that I could find so many books with every theme I typed in, i decided to search for two books, which where interesting and had some relation to Andrea Palladios work.
The first one I picked was „Modern Architectural Theory“ by Mallgrave. It was published in 2005, about 500 years after Palladio was born. But it has the same goal as Palladios four books of architecture. It tries to summarize all the important things one has to know about architecture at the time when it is published. Palladio collected all the important informations and drawings which were available at that time and thought he had written the architectural „bible“. But 500 Years later, there are a lot of different views and informations on architecture, which this new book tried to summarize.
The second writing I found was „Architecture Culture“ by Ockman. It is not exactly a book, but more a collection of documents which describe architecture and in which you can find critical comments by the author. This reminds me of Palladios work, which is also a collection of four books, and he also writes from his standing point, saying what he thinks is good and what is bad architecture.
