First I wrote down some words, that I thought would describe my Book really well. These were geometry, handbook, construction, elements, architectural manual, problems of structure. I used the “Xenotheka Library” and the “Alberti and Vitruvius” brain from Alice. Alice showed a lot of different search results, what made it difficult to choose which ones I wanted to look at more closely. There were a lot of books that weren’t fitting. After reading a lot of introducing texts I could finally choose four books to look at even more closely.
After thumbing through the books, I chose three books that are in some points comparable to the book “Architecture practique”.
First, I want to talk about the book from Euclid about elements of geometry. As well as in the book “Architecture practique” in Euclid’s book “Elements of Geometry” the construction of geometry and calculations are described. It is written down very exactly and detailed. Similarly, to the “Architecture Practique” the texts are accomplished by drawings. They help to understand what is meant in the text.
What is different to the book from Pierre Bullet is, that it doesn’t really relate to Architecture. It only treats the elements of geometry.
This leads me to the second book I chose. It is the book “constructing architecture” by Andrea Deplazes. It as well intents, like the “Architecture practique”, to be a manual for architects. It treats very important construction and design ideas. If an architect needs advice, he can open both these books and find a solution.
The third book I found was the book “elements of architecture” by Rem Koolhas. The book treats different elements from a building. From the floor through the fireplace up to the ceiling, the most important elements of a house are covered in this book. This reminds heavily to the book “Architecture practique” from Pierre Bullet. He also describes the various elements of a house and how to construct them. “Elements of architecture” emphasizes the history and impact of these elements as well as “Architecture practique” does.
