The book “Vari disegni de architettura ornati de porte / inventati da Bernardino Radi da Cortona” is a book about doors. The Size of the book when closed is about 24 centimeters on the short side and 32 centimeters on the long side which most strongly represents the category folio.
The spine of the book is fortified and the pages make a solid impression: it seems as if the pages of the original book have been glued to a new book to prevent them from falling apart. There is only a short introduction to the book. Then it is organized such that it always has a blank page and then another one of Radis door designs. It contains a total of 52 illustrations on 110 pages. These 52 illustrations as mentioned before contain various ideas from Bernardino Radi himself about how people could improve or add more variety to their doors. He experiments with different shapes and ornaments and combines them together. Therefore, there is a great variety of different doorways in the book. He also uses a lot of faces and sculptures for his ideas which sometimes render them more and more carnivalesque. Sometimes the doorways are even bigger, so it almost seems as if they are arcs and not normal doors.
