Ars delineandi coloribusque localibus adumbrandi aedem : in usum eorum qui hanc artem discendi desiderio ardent, manuductore carent. (The art of drawing and shading a building with the local colours: for the benefit of those who are passionate about learning this art and craft) was published 1787 by Karl Hadaly de Hada. Like one can guess from the books title it probably is a guide for someone who wants to improve his skills to put his thoughts on paper. Pictures are only used for decoration and information is mostly written down in steps. It is similar to a ,,How to guideā. He explains his theories step by step. Each chapter has small sub-chapters which make it easier to delve into the topics.
My ability in Latin is very limited and it is mostly a guessing game for me, so I ask a friend if he could translate the chapters for me. That really helped and in combination with strolling through the pages of the book I had somewhat of an idea, what Hadaly de Hadas intention are and were. The chapters give a good overview of the book. I was able to orientate myself quite well by them. It has a very good structure and seems to me to be quite well divided into which topics you start with and which you end. I find it quite fascinating and interesting how a lot of things have changed today and somehow not. Of course, today most things are digital, but basically the philosophy behind it remains the same.
Hadaly de Hada start with the basics, with stuff like the use of specific tools or the fundamentals of ink. He also talks about the different architectonical types. He then focuses on the components of the buildings. Then it kind of changes from theoretical to more practical themes. He mentions in one chapter how to convert ideas into reality. He continues with presenting a lot of methods and ideas how to design. There is also a part which is used to explain one how to draw shadows and it also contains a it also contains a section describing in more detail how to work and draw better with ink. After this chapter, things get a bit theoretical again. It is written about the components of the architecture. Topics such as roofs or other architectural components of a house are also discussed. In the last chapter, Hadaly de Hada writes about the different types of buildings.
